Memorial Day Weekend In A Nutshell

Memorial Day weekend started early for all of us. Rob got a four day weekend. Woot! Friday night we headed over to Sunset Strip Tattoo so that I could get Rob (the name of my tattoo artist) to do the dragon for me. Yes, Gabriel came with us. Gabriel is always with us. Baby's first trip to a tattoo parlor! Anyway, parking is a bitch in that area, but eventually we were able to find something that wasn't too far away. We got to the place a little before 6pm (which is when Rob's shift starts) and just chilled out until he got there. When I mentioned to him that I needed to stay away from blue ink because I had a bad reaction to my fish he remembered me. Apparently I'm the only person he's ever met who's allergic to blue ink. I showed him the design and he said it would need to be a bit bigger if I wanted all the detail in there. I didn't want to compromise the quality of the image, so I went a bit bigger. I had forgotten that getting a tattoo on the outside of the ankle hurts a lot more than the inside of the ankle or the shoulder. I was able to handle it (hell, after Gabriel's birth I have a whole new pain scale), but it did sting a bit. It took about two and a half hours to do, but when it was done it looked amazing. I don't think I could have gotten a cooler dragon. I have a picture of it on the computer so if you want to see what it looks like, leave a comment or drop me an e-mail. After the tattoo was done I limped back to the car and we headed home. Rob (my husband and not the tattoo artist) cooked up some jambalaya for dinner and we watched some bad movies on the SciFi channel before going to bed.

Saturday we didn't get to sleep in at all. Rob had a hair appointment out in Montclair (his head was getting all chia pet-like). I'm not due for a color touch up so I decided to just wait and get mine done in a few weeks. It works out better when we have appointments on separate days because then one of us can watch Gabriel while the other one gets their service done. We got to Gebhart around noon and Rob got his hair cut. We spend a lot less time in there when it's just his hair cut. When we were done we grabbed lunch at A&W and then headed out to the Babies R Us in Ontario. We picked up some formula and a bouncer for Gabriel among other things and then headed back to the Clairmont area. I stopped at a drug store to get some gauze and tape for my ankle and we decided to check out a new game store in the area called Gameology. Um... yeah. If Lionheart couldn't make it I don't see this place being around for a long time. I miss Lionheart and this new place sucked. They only had in old D&D books and didn't have anything new and of interest in stock. I don't think we'll be stopping by there again anytime soon. After putting around the area we got dinner at Golden China and then headed back home.

Sunday we didn't get to sleep in at all either. But that's okay because we got to see Al. He got here around noon and we headed out for lunch at Carl's and then came back to the apartment and just played catch up. He got to meet Gabriel and we talked and he told us of the Knight's Quest he had just accomplished. It's an amazing story of him rescuing a drugged out damsel in distress, going on an amazing adventure, and feeding a dying man. It was great to see him again and even though there's a good chance we'll be living in another state by the time he moves back here again, I hope to see him again soon. Hrm, maybe we can get him out to visit us on one of his law school breaks. He left our place around 5:30pm to go and meet up with Dennis. Once he left, Rob and I were able to relax for the first time in a long time. We had nothing we needed to do and it felt great... at first. Once my body got into relaxation mode I suddenly got very sick. I guess when given the chance to relax everything hit me. I had a migraine, stomach ache, and fever. My whole body hurt and I was going from hot to cold and back again. I rested in bed for a bit and then passed out in bed.

Monday I got to sleep in. Well, with the fever and exhaustion it was more like I was comatose for most of the morning, but at least I slept. We spent the day chilling out around the house and only ventured out to make a run to the drug store, the ATM, and to grab some food at Boston Market to bring home for dinner. It was nice doing not much of anything.

Today it's back to the same old routine. Lots of laundry and taking care of Gabriel. While I'm not too fond of the laundry, I do love being around Gabriel. Yeah, he can drive me batty, but I don't think there's a more rewarding job in the world than being with my child.
