2006-11-02 11:20 PM More Apartment Hunting Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Tired Read/Post Comments (0) I am so tired, so please excuse any misspellings or ramblings. I feel like I'm about to fall asleep at the keyboard. I got up this morning at 6am (yawn) so that we could do another Milwaukee run. We left around 8am and ended up getting to my Uncle Kim's place around 11am. We dropped my Nana off there and headed out to do more apartment hunting. The day started off rather badly. Before we even saw any apartments Rob found out that he not only didn't get the job he had been flown out to Milwaukee for, but he also didn't get the one that did three phone interviews with him. The place he was flown out for referred him to another position, but as of now, neither of us has anymore really good leads. *sigh* This is not encouraging and kind of put a damper on the whole day. I can't speak for Rob about this, but I can say that I was in a funk for awhile over it. So, it looks like we'll be doing something a bit dangerous... moving cross country with no jobs. This could be bad. But we discussed the possibility of staying in LA for awhile longer and neither of us are okay with that. And so the apartment hunting continued. The first place we looked at was one in Brookfield that wasn't available to see the last time. It was an amazing two bedroom townhome, but was too small for us. We would either have had to have Gabriel in our room like in our current place, or have no room for an office. They had a two bedroom with a den that might have worked, but they know of none coming available anytime in the near future. The next place we looked at was in Glendale. We were a bit worried when the outside of the building looked like a nursing home and the people walking around were a bit... odd. The inside of the building was like something out of the seventies and made me think of where Larry from Three's Company would have lived. The manager warned us that the unit was still inhabited by three construction workers. Okay, so I expected messy. It wasn't messy, but I'm glad my Mom and Gabriel were waiting in the car on this one. There was porno sitting out (one magazine was super hard core with a big boobed siliconed chick touching a booby with one hand and putting something in her hoo-hoo with the other), flyers for strip clubs, etc. The place smelled like stale jizz. That one was a big NO. The third place was in Fox Point and was AMAZING. Super upscale snazzy apartment building. However, it wasn't a townhouse or anything like that... it was an apartment that opened into a hall and we wanted to avoid that. It was also a lot more than what we wanted to pay. We want to pay below $2000/month ideally and this place was $2250. Also, it had some weird water heating system all around the floor boards and that's probably not something a crawling baby should have access to. Still, it was amazing. We'd both have spots in the garage, there's a car wash in the garage, storage, and the apartment was more like a small house. This is one we're highly considering even though the price is more than we wanted (though I have a feeling we'll go with something else... more on that later). The fourth place was in Bayside and was a townhome in an apartment (a really cool two level townhome, but that opened into a main hall like an apartment). It was big and nice, but we didn't like the fact that our bedroom would be on the first level and Gabriel's would be on the second. The fifth was in Mequon and oddly enough the person showing it to us recognized us from our October 25 flight out here! I really liked the place, but Rob didn't and we both need to love a place in order to move there. He didn't like the fact that there were only two phone jacks in the entire place (and none in the office room) and that the main bathroom had the ceiling slanting down over the tub/shower (kind of clausterphobic). The biggest problem I saw with it was that our bedroom (on the top floor, Gabriel's and the office would be on the bottom floor) had no door. The last place we saw (in Germantown) was scary. Huge piles of dog poop (Rob asked if horses or bears used the area as a toilet) were outside the front door, the door knob of the front door was falling off, the balcony screen door was all ripped up etc. So that was a definite no. Thinking things over and comparing them to what we saw on Sunday (the Milwaukee one with too many stairs, the one we didn't like in New Berlin, and the cool condo like one in Pewaukee) we pretty much have it narrowed down to either the super ritzy one in Fox Point, or the one in Pewaukee. We're pretty sure we'll go with the Pewaukee one. Saturday (the day my Mom takes us back into Milwaukee to drop us off at the hotel) we're going to re-look at the Pewaukee one (if it's still available) and another unit that has an extra bedroom, but no huge bathroom. We'll probably pick one of those. After apartment hunting we headed back to my Uncle Kim's house to pick up my Nana. We grabbed Culver's drive through to eat in the car for dinner and then headed back on the long trek to my Mom's house. I'm exhausted and took a bath in my Mom's amazing huge stationary tub and am now trying to get as much done on here as I can before I pass out. ----------
Congratulations! You scored a super 65%! Cool, calm and powerful. Whilst your actual super abilities may not be anything too dazzling, you have earnt the respect of both friends and enemies in response to your amazing fighting skills, strategic combat and experience. Luckily you have access to the greens which can fund all your majorly cool gadgets, vehicles and weapons! Also, you're reluctant but still accepting to the idea of having a teammate/side-kick, which just makes everything a whole lotta fun, doesn't it now! On the down side, you've probably suffered some sort of trauma at a young age (that's why we don't talk to the old man near the swings, kids). Similar to the Wolverine, your past is a base for your current motivation, undertaking some kind of personal vow in search of justice. All in all though, you're one tough nut. There's not a lot of people who have the minerals to go up against you, and you're experienced enough not to get cocky and let the little things like never finding happiness get you down!
