Pediatrician Appointment and Voting

Mood:
Wishing my mom was still here.

Yesterday was Gabriel's 2 year well baby check up. Everything seems to be going well. He's fine with his language skills and way ahead with his physical skills. The doctor seemed impressed when I told her that he can count and has been doing so for awhile now. She also seemed impressed by how much of a little gymnist he is. He's 34 inches tall (which is short for his age) and 26 pounds (which is skinny), but he's still within the normal range. He does have a huge head though. That makes sense because both my mom and I have huge heads as well. My mom came along to the doctor appointment to give me a hand with the Poopchuck. Good lord, it was like a sauna in there.

From there we drove around a bit so that Gabriel could nap. My mom showed me the outside of a place where my Nana might be moving to. It's another assisted living facility, but much nicer than the one she's in now and there are only 20 people there at any given time. Plus, the food is supposed to be better. It looked very cute.

After that it was time to vote. My mom waited in the car with Gabriel while I ran in and voted. It was quick and easy because the only thing to vote for was the presidential primary. I'm very disappointed that the candidate I wholeheartedly support and voted for didn't win in my state. Bleh.

Voting out here is a bit odd. There's no punchcard and there's no "fill in the circle". You take a felt pen that's provided in the voting booth and connect an arrow. I've never seen anything like that before. This was my first election in this state.

After I voted we headed to see my Nana. We spent some time in her room and just chilled out. At one point, Gabriel grabbed the control for her bed and thought it was a phone. He kept holding it up to his ear and saying "hello... hello... hello?". It was so cute. He did this a few times.

Eventually, Gabriel decided it was time to head home. He brought his coat over to my mom and made her put it on him. He then brought my mom's coat over to her and put it on her. He then took my mom's hand and led her to the door. So, because it was pretty much time to head out anyway, we headed back to my place.

My Nana seems to be doing well. She's no longer in the big foam boot for her bedsore and she's doing better in physical therapy. She's very lucid, though her short term memory does have some problems (but she is 95, so I guess that's to be expected). She seems excited about the possibility of moving because she hates the food at this place. I've seen some of her meals and I wouldn't even eat them.

The chicken and rice casserole that I made for dinner was nasty, so we ended up ordering in for dinner. At least I know not to make that ever again!

We watched the first hour of American Idol and then switched over to watch Big Brother. Rob gave the Poopchuck a bath after we chased the little guy around the house naked trying to get him in his bath.

My mom headed out this morning. *snifflewah* She's going to make a visit to my Nana's and then head back home. It sucks. I miss her already and wish she could stay longer. I love it when she's here. She and Gabriel are so close and it's cute to see them interact together. Plus, it's nice to get a bit of help around the house.

I'm currently making a bratwurst/saurkraut/potato dinner in the crock pot. I think this one will turn out good. My other bratwurst dishes were great and this one looks yummy already!
