Ren Faire - Trip 1

Saturday we got our weekly errands done. We made a run to Ulta for Rob to get some hair gunk. We made a Babies R Us run. And we did our weekly grocery shopping. Saturday night we watched Silent Hill. While I did enjoy it, it was much tamer than I thought it was going to be.

On Sunday, we went to the Ren Faire. We got there shortly after 10am (when it opened) because we wanted to be there when it was a bit cooler. It was nice (except for too much sun) in the morning, but it got a lot warmer as the day went on. My fair skin and intolerance to the heat does not like 80's and sunny.

We spent most of the day wandering around the Faire and munching on the amazing Faire food. They have the most wonderful garlic mushrooms there and Gabriel loved the mac and cheese bites. I ended up buying a wand and we got Gabriel a dragon t-shirt that will probably fit him next summer (he has plenty of t-shirts in his current size).

Due to the horrible amount of mosquito bites I received last year at the Faire, I decided to try something new this year. I can't wear bug sprays and I'm allergic to DEET, so normally I just suffer and get bit. I'm very tasty to mosquitoes and also allergic to them. Last year I had my entire body covered in large itchy welts. It was horrible. This year I found a product called Bug Bam. It's an all natural wrist band that makes mosquitoes think you're a plant. I didn't know if it would work, but Rob, Gabriel, and I all wore one. And they do work!!! I didn't get a single bite yesterday! Neither did Rob or Gabriel. Wow.

Gabriel and Rob went into a kid's maze where there were fake gold coins scattered about for the kids to find. Gabriel found some and called it loot. That's my gamer boy! For the rest of the day he played with the coins and called it loot.

Also, he loved the nature faeries that were all over, especially the spider faerie. He ran right up to her and said hi. She gave him one of her threads and he looked at her in awe as she pulled it off of a spool that was in her shirt. He said "thank you" when she gave it to him.

Of course, there was also some bad at the Faire as well. At one point, Gabriel had an absolute tantrum and when I was holding him to try and calm me down he hurt me many times (pinching hard, trying to choke me, biting me, etc.). We couldn't give him a time out at the Faire so it was a pretty bad situation.

All in all it was a very good day at the Faire. We had a lot of fun wandering around and looking in the shops and found out that Gabriel loves non-alcoholic pina coladas. Though being there made me miss Berek and Pita terribly much.

Around 2:30pm I was feeling very cooked and crispy despite being covered head to toe in SPF 50 sunblock. So, it was time to head out. On the way home we stopped off at Mars Cheese Castle and grabbed some summer sausage, sesame sticks, and cheese to nibble on for dinner.

The minute we got back home I jumped in the shower and got all the sunscreen stickiness and Ren Faire grime off of me. We spent the night in the house and watched Big Brother and did some gaming.

Today things are back to normal, well, almost. Our air conditioning stopped functioning because the thermostat stopped functioning and had a "low battery" warning on it. For the life of me, I can't figure out where the hell a battery would be put in the thing. I hit it a few times and it's working again. Hopefully, Rob can figure the damn thing out tonight.
