2008-11-07 8:59 AM LinkedIn Lemming Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Tired Read/Post Comments (0) When Rob first told me about LinkedIn, I had no interest in it. I still don't, but I give up and I shall be a lemming and join the LinkedIn community. What changed? Well, let's just say that I'm desperate for a job and if there's anyway being on this site can help with that, then it's worth creating an account. Job hunting in this economy sucks hairy monkey balls and I have a feeling any of you readers who are also looking for gainful employment know just how bad it is out there. Want an example? At the beginning of the year, there would be 2-4 pages of legal jobs (with at least half of those as attorney positions) on the job boards I frequent. Granted, most of them wanted far more experience than I have, but I was able to get my resume out to some places. Recently, the pickings have gotten slimmer and slimmer. It's to the point where there are now maybe 3-4 jobs (not pages) listed for legal positions and MAYBE one of them will be an attorney position that I'm not qualified for. It's bad out there. Volunteering positions? Yeah, forget that as well. The laid off attorneys with the experience are getting those. The public agencies are on a hiring freeze. The economy sucks. Plus, there's the fact that if I'm not working I can take care of Gabriel and if I am working we'll be paying $250 a week in daycare (not counting gas and other expenses). We don't have that kind of money to give up just for me to work for free. But... I have a volunteering idea for if I still dont' have a job after the new year. I'm not going to mention more than that right now. Anyway, my point is this. I now have a LinkedIn account. I tried to send out connection requests to anyone I could think of who is a friend, family member, or someone I went to school with. If you have a LinkedIn account and I didn't send you a request, then feel free to drop me one. -----------
