2010-03-10 1:53 PM Wow Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Sad Read/Post Comments (3) I'm not usually into celebrities, never have been. But, growing up, I had my childhood crush on two celebrities - Michael Jackson (when he was black and semi-normal) and Corey Haim. Yes, I've been teased at length for both of those. Last year, Michael Jackson's death came as a total surprise. It wasn't something I was expecting in the least and was saddened to lose a musical genius. There will never be another artist like Jackson. No matter what people thought of him, he was an icon in his line of work. Today, when I woke up this morning, Rob told me that Corey Haim had died. While it wasn't a surprise knowing his lifestyle, it did come as a bit of a shock. I know he had lost a lot of weight and was trying to get clean recently. Obviously, the trying to get clean part didn't work out. No matter what people thought of him, he was a very talented actor. While he was in a lot of "fluff" and fun movies like Dream a Little Dream and License to Drive, he was also in my all time favorite movie ever - The Lost Boys. However, his acting chops really shone through in Lucas. I'm not a huge fan of that film, but it shows just what potential he had, even as a child. To throw that all away with drugs, well, it's a tragedy. He had the potential to be a fantastic actor and not get lost in the child actor shuffle. He was trying to get clean and sober, but relapses happen. Unfortunately, relapses can be deadly. It's a bit sad and a bit scary knowing that my two teenage celebrity crushes are both dead now. Both from drug overdoses. Two people with enormous talent, lost forever. ----------
