Gah. I'm at my wits end with my prescription insurance company. Today I headed over to the pharmacy to pick up my two blood pressure medications and my asthma med. They denied the asthma medication. Normally, I have a $60 co-pay, but this time I had to pay the full price of $160 for one months worth of pills. There is no generic and no substitute. It was either pay that, or not be able to breathe. So, I paid it.

Apparently, they'll cover my old steroid treatment, but not Singulair. On my old steroid treatment I gained over 100 pounds and kept on gaining. When I was taken off of that and put on Singulair, I started losing some of that weight and am slowly but surely headed down on the scale. Now they're telling me I have the choice between paying $160 a month for these pills, going back on the meds that will make me gain weight again, or not being able to breathe. Lovely.

Rob called the prescription insurance company (since we get it through his work) and explained to them the situation. At least the guy on the phone was sympathetic. He said they would call my doctor's office and talk to the doctor about it. If my doctor said that I did need to be on that specific treatment for my asthma, then chances are they would cover it for another year. So, right now, we're waiting. We were told to call the pharmacy on Friday to see if it cleared or not and if it did, we could get the difference in price back.

Hopefully, this will work out. I have to be on some asthma medication in order to breathe, but I don't want to be back on one that will make me gain back all of the weight I've lost and keep going up and up from there.
