Last Sunday afternoon, my Mom heard firetrucks on her street. The hydrant is right near her house, so she also saw some of the firetrucks down there. She headed out to see what was happening, and couldn't even make it to the end of her block because of the smoke. One of the houses on her street was on fire.

It was a fast burn and a very bad one and the firefighters couldn't stop the house from collapsing. When the garage collapsed they noticed that there were two cars in it, and were worried that the residents didn't get out in time.

By the time they were done, the fire hadn't spread to any other homes, but the house that had been on fire was utterly destroyed.

Yesterday, they found the remains of the two residents. They didn't make it out in time and both were killed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and not much other than what I just posted has been released.

Wow. Just... wow. I'm stunned. I believe my Mom knew the man. I don't think she knew the woman, from what I've heard she tended to stay inside and keep to herself a lot (possibly an invalid, possibly a hermit). But still, to think that two of my Mom's neighbors are now dead because of the house fire. Well, it just has my brain reeling in shock.
