2011-01-18 4:59 PM Cut By A Rusty Nail Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Ouch Read/Post Comments (0) I headed out to get the mail today and noticed a package from Amazon was in the little wooden area below our complex's mailboxes. There was a ton of snow in front of that area, so when I got the box I had to pull it up and out an an angle to avoid covering it (and my arm) in snow. As I did that, I felt a searing pain in the top of my right thumb as a rusty nail cut into me. When I got upstairs, I called my doctor's office to see how long a tetanus shot was good for. I had my last one back in 2009. They asked what kind of injury I had and when I told them they said I was good, that if it had been five years or more I should get a booster, but for that time period I was all right. I spent some time covering the wound with a paper towel, trying to get it to stop bleeding. It wouldn't. I didn't know if I needed stitches or not, but I knew I couldn't get them then because I had to head out and pick Gabriel up from pre-school. I've never had stitches, and so I have no idea when a wound needs them. So, I wrapped it up tightly in a band aid and headed out. While I was out I stopped at Walgreens to pick up some more band aids (with antibiotic cream on them even) because I didn't relish the thought of having to wear kids bandages for the next few days. At one point when I was out, I had to pull my car over to throw up. I don't fare well around my own blood. I'm fine if someone else gets a wound, but if I get one I either pass out or throw up. Since I was out and driving, I'm fine that my body chose to go the throwing up route this time. I'm now home with Gabriel and the blood seems to be showing through the top of the band aid. When Rob gets home from work I'll have him look at it. He's had stitches before, so I'm thinking he'll know if I need them or not. On one hand, it looks like a deep scrape, so I don't think I do. On the other hand, it won't stop bleeding. So, who knows. I'm hoping I can just deal with this with some antibiotic cream and a band aid. I do not want to have to get stitches tonight. So, here's to hoping that stitches are not needed! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
