2011-04-09 6:38 PM Pink Eye Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Meh Read/Post Comments (0) We had to take Gabriel over to the urgent care clinic today. His eyes were all puffy and swollen and thick, yellow mucus kept coming out of them. He seemed fine when he woke up in the morning, then had some eye crusties, then it just kept getting worse and worse. Turns out he has conjunctivitis (pink eye). He now has antibiotic eye drops and he took his first dose like a champ and earned a lollipop as a reward for being so good during the dose.
We asked how long he needs to stay out of school, and the doctor said not at all. He won't be contagious anymore from 24 hours after the drops are first given to him and since his next school day is Tuesday, he should be fine to go in. However, on Monday morning we'll be calling the preschool and giving them a heads up that he had this since he probably was contagious on Friday before any of the symptoms even showed up.
I'll be amazed if neither Rob nor myself gets this from him. I already have a new cold coming on (even though neither Rob nor Gabriel were sick) and it's just a matter of time before it heads into my lungs yet again. I honestly will be more surprised if I don't get the conjunctivitis from Gabriel than if I do.
