Birds

The first Spring that we were in this apartment, some mourning doves (my favorite birds) made a nest on our balcony. They didn't freak out for us coming out there and looking at them and we even got to see their eggs hatch and their babies. It was neat, though the clean up of their nest and poop when the moved out was not fun.

That Summer, we got our balcony screened in. I don't know where some of the birds have been making nests in the past few years, but I'm watching one make one now. Between apartments, there's a drainage spout. They're making it on the pipe. I'm watching the bird go back and forth and what was just a few twigs that looked like were stuck to the screen of our balcony this morning, is turning into a nest now.

I kind of wish our balcony wasn't screened in. It was cool when the bird made the nest on it and even though the screen's there, wasps and other insects can get in, but for some reason can never find a way out. So, in the summer, it's chock full o' wasps. Yuck.
