One Hell Of A Weekend

Mood:
In Severe Pain

Last weekend was filled with a really bad down and one really great up. It seemed to end up being a weekend of extremes.

Friday was a half day for Gabriel, but he stayed home with me all day. He didn't want to get up in the morning, said he wasn't feeling well, and only would have been at school for a little over an hour. So... he and I just spent the day together.

The day turned into a disaster around 11:30am or so. I bent over to pick up the pile of towels for the laundry (they were on the shelf next to the tub, so I was only bending like an inch or two over) and felt something pop in my back. It was bad and the pain was on par or even worse than my labor and c-section. My legs collapsed out from under me and when I could get up and to a phone I immediately called Rob. He was able to come home from work and help me watch Gabriel and he also drove me to the doctor's office. I was SO lucky that there was an open appointment that afternoon.

Seems I slipped a disc, pinched a nerve, and might have even torn a muscle. About a week before this injury I hurt my back minorly grabbing Gabriel mid-air as he jumped off of his table and was about to faceplant onto the floor. I hurt something on the right, lower side (probably the muscle), but took it easy and it felt fine after a few days. Chances were, that weakened things enough to cause the bad injury.

My pain was (and still is) around a 9 or a 10 when moving and about a 7 or so when sitting still. It's bad. In the doctor's office I was given two shots in my butt. One was a muscle relaxant/anti-inflammatory and the other was enough Demerol to drop a small elephant. I was warned that I'd either pass out or be super tired shortly after the shot. Nope. I was barely even a wee bit loopy. Shows how bad I was hurting. I was also given two prescriptions - one for Naproxin as an anti-inflammatory and the other as Vicodin for pain. I was given the 5 mg Vicodin when I fractured my knee and after my c-section. For this, I was given the 7.5 mg one... and it's not making me loopy in the least. It does help with the pain a bit, but I don't feel out of it at all. Once again, shows how bad this pain is.

Saturday morning I had my hair appointment, which I still went to otherwise my hair would look like crap because I'd have to wait until my next appointment to have things touched up. I was able to keep my back super straight the whole time and while I hurt, I didn't make it worse. Later that day we needed to get a coat to my Nana, but I can't do much walking, so Rob had to run it in. I feel really bad not going in and seeing her, but I physically could not do that much walking.

Sunday one of Gabriel's friends, Zane, had his fifth birthday party. I knew I wanted to go to that because Zane (who Gabriel met back in Kindercare) is Gabriel's only real friend. Zane is also on the Autism spectrum, so the kids really don't see anything odd about each other, they're very much alike and get along very well. I wanted to go so Gabriel could see Zane again and because I really wanted to meet his parents. Not only did we get along super well, but we also found out that we live right across the street from each other. We can see their condo balcony from our balcony! How crazy is that? So, I think Rob and I (finally) made some friends around here and one of their sons is Gabriel's friend. How amazing is that?

Gabriel got Zane a Squishable hedgehog for his birthday present and Zane seemed to love it (and named is Penguin). His mom told me that he hadn't let go of it all yesterday afternoon. I LOVE that we found people with similar interests and a kid that Gabriel gets along with. It's also a relief that their kids are both on the spectrum as well so they understand some of Gabriel's quirks. I think we'll be seeing a lot more of them down the road.

Grocery shopping needed to be done yesterday and I still can't walk much, so Rob and Gabriel did that.

This week Rob is taking Gabriel to school in the morning because I can't do the walking or standing that's needed. I'm still picking him up, but I can use the circle and he's brought right out to me, so that should work out well. My only concern is the time from when Gabriel gets home to the time when Rob gets home from work. I really hope that Gabriel is a good boy for me because I can barely move.

I have a follow up doctor's appointment a week from today. Hopefully, the pain will have subsided by then.
