The weather bug has been chirping at me all day about the various flood watches, tornado warnings and other dire weather consequences that are coming our way. I'm expecting some Monty Pythonesque lost horseman of the apocalypse to stop by and ask directions.
Is Rush Limbaugh not the biggest idiot who has ever darkened the TV screen? If his head was stuck any further up his ass, he'd defy the laws of physics. That mini-rant a) came out of nowhere and b) made me feel much better. Caitlin is out at an Ani DiFranco concert, despite the torrential downpours, a friend who dropped out of going at the last minute and Pennsylvania drivers who all automatically drop their speed to 20 mph when it rains. Books: At the book store tonight I noticed a text titled "Tidying Up Art" (Amazon sales rank #1,210,529), or something like that. This, of course, appealed to my obsessively tidy nature and the picture on the cover, Van Gogh's bedroom - before and after tidying up (after consisted of all the stuff in the room piled on the bed), was fairly amusing. Most of the cleaning up consisted of contemporary pieces that were shown on the left page, with their decomposed pieces arranged into some sort of piles on the right page - not nearly as amusing, and, quite frankly, not really tidy at all. There was one that made me smile - a Seurat painting that was tidied into a plastic bag full of little multi-colored plastic spheres. Breugel's nasty little village square was also depopulated of all its nasty little inhabitants. I didn't notice whether the artist attempted such a feat with any of Jackson Pollack's splatters.
