Okay, okay, yeah, sometimes I crack myself up. It's not that I'm so clever (I've been clever on occasion yeah but it's not a regular thing) but I love making funny mistakes.
You know how sometimes your brain supplies a word other than what is on the page? And it sometimes seems like your substitution is better? Or at least more interesting? Like the pizza joint near Mark and Priscilla's house that read "Corfu House of Pizza" that we all tended to read as "CorfLu House of Pizza" because CorfLu is meaningful to science fiction fanzine fans (it's from "Correcting Fluid" for mimeo stencils, remember those? because fanzines used to be produced on mimeo. Many fans today are The Best Experts on this almost obsolete cheap technologies. We have friends who still own mimeos.) (hi, Jerry, see ya tomorrow) So there I was the other day, reading a book in which two characters meet in at a restaurant called "Landfall". And DAMNED if I read it every single time as "Landfill". And it just would NOT go away. Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
