I received email today reporting that $24.51 of my $25 KIVA loan has been paid back from last April's investment. The recipient has been ahead of schedule on repaying it from day one. She lives in South Sudan and needed a loan to buy more charcoal to sell. She uses the money made by selling charcoal to send her three children to school.
The link above to Kiva.org will bring you to the page. Can you spare $25? It gets paid back. You choose a country, an enterprise, the gender of the person whom you wish to lend money to. You and others collectively provide the loan which is monitored by a non-profit or NGO and You Get Your Money Back. The current repayment rate is over 98%. Women comprise over 82% of the loan recipients. Next month when i get the balance of my loan back, I'll reinvest it. How can you NOT want to support this? KIVA - $25 and you feel like a superhero.
