Life in the newsroom is always exciting. But today, it was downright thrilling.
Oh yes, "E! True Hollywood Stories" came to the station today to interview one of our on-air personalities as part of the E!THS on Rachael Ray--the local culinary whiz whose dimpled cheeks and peppy dishes launched her to Food TV stardom. From Price Chopper to Iron Chef, as it were. Oh humble beginnings--turns out Food TV discovered her when some producers there happened to be traveling through our listening area and listening as she did an interview on one of our shows. Oh, what luck!!! So a crew from E! invaded our studios. I tripped and almost tumbled over all the lighting equipment they hauled in. All I can say is that I want to live to see the day my own E! True Hollywood Story airs. Not long after, the second wave of daily excitement came over us as we found ourselves inextricably drawn to CNN, as they went live to a police chase in Dallas. Some woman was driving a pick-up in excess of 90 mph, barreling down a Texas freeway. The police shot her front tires out, which eventually brought her speed down to a crawl--but before the police could catch up with her, she jumped out of her moving car over the side of the road, tumbling down a slope of boulders on the shore of a reservoir. She tripped and fell, the police grabbed her--and slammed her head into a rock. They got her! I was amazed at how difficult it was to turn away. And simultaneously ashamed of myself for my disability. Meanwhile, we're all wondering why television news isn't more interesting or substantive... Although given the choice between hearing about another murder/rape/arson etc., and watching a high speed police chase, which would the average Joe choose? I once watched one of those dangerous chase: police pursuits gone bad-type shows in which a guy going 120 mph on a motorcycle crashes head-on into a bus. He literally bounced off the bus like a basketball and landed on his head. Miraculously, he survived! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
