Buffalo Gal

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Vows and wows

I never read National Enquirer, People or the New York Times Vows section.
Yeah, right.
Regular exposure to all three helps me hold on to the fallacy that my world is a relatively normal place.
Vows and the surrounding so-selected couples are their own over-achieving freak show. Springer with MBAs and diction.
The feature where they revisit the Vows column couple often contains people who may well be too weird for the other two publications.
Today's couple had a surprise wedding where she wore a blue cat suit. In the family portrait with her husband and children, she's wearing Hooter's girl type shorts and tank top with her legs angled just-so for the camera.
Since this is still the Times that have the wedding date (Feb. 9, 1997) in the headline and the children's ages (8 and 7) in the photo cutline, allowing the reader the discretion to do the math or not.
The article goes on to say that every Mother's Day her husband gives her her favorite item of clothing, a bikini. She stays at home while he works as a television news executive. "I'm trying to give Phil a great gal pal to have fun with. I still want to be Phil's girlfriend. I don't want to be his wife. A girlfriend is a lot more fun than a wife."
Can you still be a trophy wife if you build your own pedestal?
Lest you think this is just another blonde joke, the former bride is given the opportunity for deep discourse on the meaning of marriage at the end of the piece.
"At the end of the day, do you want to jump into that person's arms and make out?" she asks.
What more could any of us add.
