Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2004-11-03 8:30 AM Harsh morning light I stayed up until the bitter end, then couldn't go to sleep.
Hate, deception and fear won and, in the end, it wasn't close. Millions of new voters entered the fray. The lost 4 million evangelical Christians were apparently found. Seventeen percent of young people 18-25 voted, the exact same percentage as the last presidential election. Halliburton and sacrificing our sons and daughters to a war based on a lie is apparently peachy keen. Billions of dollars can be spent to promote marriage and theology among poor people, but if your school requires federal funding, we're going to have to leave your child behind. Ten states trounced the concept that committed gay couples be allowed the basic partnership benefits allowed Brittany Spears for her drunken Vegas quickie. Our future is mortgaged with a trillion dollar debt, but they still don't have enough money to make Homeland Security anything but an oxymoron. We've got a Republican House and Republican Senate with larders stock full of pork barrels without managing to create a single net gain in employment in the last four years. The unemployment rate drops when peole fall off the rolls and give up. We worked so hard to turn out the vote. They did too. Turns out there are a lot more of them. It's not the end of the world, but I'll bet it looks a lot like this. Copyright 2004 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
