I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. The next chapter

For the last two years I've hosted an informal women's wine group here.
As Charlie and Jen helped pull out the glasses and chairs in what has become a routine set up, I thought about the variety of people the monthly group has brought into our home and how very much some of them will be missed.
I leave Sunday for 10 days of house and job hunting in the next place, but last night gave wonderful closure to this place.
There were five other women. Three had been at the very first gathering and most of the others in between. One came for the first time, the other the second. Our political and personal philosophies represented the broadest range of the spectrum.
But it wasn't a evening of carping and rhethoric, just wine and laughter.
That's the memory I want to take away from here. Wine, laughter and good people.
The rest is just so much nonsense.
