Buffalo Gal
Judi Griggs

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. The Amazing Disappearing Desk

It's nearing the end of my second day on the job and I can't find my desk.
I know it's somewhere under the self-generating piles sitting next to me. I'm not sure I'll see it again before I leave this place.
Most differences between not-for-profit arts and corporate machinations are obvious, everyone knows evil pays much better.
At some level I could have guessed I would have to run down the hallway to sort my documents out of a central printer that alternates between spitting out half-a-tree a minute and jamming completely. Or that 45 could qualify me for a Senior discount with my co-workers. Or that every project is a stretch of resources, human and otherwise.
But I could not have imagined the feeling of sitting in the concert hall Saturday night with Charlie knowing I'd be on the team in a matter of hours.
Clean desks are highly overrated.
