Buffalo Gal
Judi Griggs

I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Packing light

I've been getting scolding emails noting I am not writing.
I am writing.
I am just not writing here.
I am turning out prodigious amounts of copy for press releases, advertisements, proposals, memos and emails with a specific business purpose.
I'm not writing fiction. I'm not writing to friends I care about deeply. I'm not writing freelance articles now hanging over me like journalistic cleavers.
There are, apparently, a finite number of words available. The fountain has become a practical canal system with locks that release just enough to get the job done
-- job after job. I don't like wading in these shallows.
For the first time since late November, I'm skipping the scheduled orchestra events this weekend in favor of family events and responsibilities here.
Wednesday, I'm taking the day off and going to New York. If a night at the Algonquin can't get things going, the well may be dry.
As a back up position, I spent an hour on the Delta site this evening trying every possible combination to stretch my remaining miles from here to Georgia and back. My only option was a late Sunday until early Thursday to Jacksonville, routing though Atlanta and Cinncinnati... a flight plan reserved for machochists and the desparately homesick.
I've got a list of my things I need to bring back to Buffalo with me. I'm hoping there is room in the overhead for my writing.
