I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. I didn't exactly skip, but felt like I could have, when the temperature stayed in the 50s for a couple days this week. Floral skirts, sweater sets, no coat... spring had sprung.
But it was a premature uncoiling. Yesterday dawned to the incessant clicking of freezing rain against the window and ankle deep slush. By the time I got to the workshop. it took three tries to make it up the iced, inclined driveway.
But it was just a light snow and the roads were clear when we got out eight hours later. It was just a slight aberration...
I grabbed up the things I needed for a morning at the office, threw on a jacket and headed out the door. I turned back when I saw the view through the glass doors in the lobby. There are at least eight inches of snow and a morning of shovelling my car out of the parking lot ahead of me.
I headed immediately back up the stairs and am hiding behind my computer. It is very important I write this blog (organize my desktop, answer email). If not for the things that MUST be done at the office I could easily fill every minute until I leave for the airport this evening.
But the snow would still be there...
My boots are in the back of the car. They will be very cold. I'll pull on an extra pair of socks, the warmest gloves, a scarf and the parka.
I have several memos to write when I get to the office. Not sure where to send the one requiring a more stable spring on my return.
