Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2005-05-11 5:25 PM Sunshine and furniture Nothing like a little sunshine and furniture to set the spirit soaring.
The bed arrives tomorrow. A real bed made for adults -- box spring, pillow top, the whole luxurious and previously unremarkable schmear. I have a kitchen table and THREE chairs, three swilveling, sturdy, toe-friendly chairs on loan from my brother. Aunt Judy delivered two wicker chairs, a love seat and two tables. I have rejoined the ranks of basic comfort and, as God is my witness, I will never go back to temporary props again. As if furni-euphoria wasn't enough, I'm soaking in my first real spring in 24 years. In the south there is only a subtle calendar shift. Here nature makes a brass brand announcement. The angry branches that laced the window edge at my office have popped overnight into a leafy frame and every bird in a 1500 mile radius seems to have stopped by to join the celebration chorale. Tulips and daffodils led the color parade and lawns are now dotted with dandlelions. After an extra gray winter, I open the door each morning on the Emerald City. Legs and arms (including my own) are pastier than I've seen publically displayed in a long time, but shameless sandals and short sleeves are the order of the day. They are not a statement about the current temperatures, but what we finally believe is just around the corner. Spring is here and I have furniture, some of which I can take out on my porch. Does it get any better than this? Copyright 2005 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
