Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2005-09-29 10:32 PM An apple a day I love apple cider.
Not the transparent, super santized stuff they hawk year around in the south, but the rich, cloudy stuff that comes in early fall and tastes like an apple without the crunch. The early morning television news had a reporter at a local family cider press the other day, so between showering and brushing my teeth I learned that: - It takes about 36 apples to mke a gallon of cider. - Apples float because they are one-third air. - The early pressings in September are apples trucked in from North Carolina and Virginia, but New York and Washington have ideal climtes for apples. - The hot dry summer this year will mean smaller and sweeter local apples, which are just now coming in big numbers. My recent run through the hospital makes it pretty clear an apple a day doesn't necessarily keep the doctor away. But other recent events make it clear that one bad apple CAN spoil the whole bunch.
