I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. Backdating

I've worked in media and marketing for almost a quarter of a century, even had my own agency back in the early 90s. Yesterday, I entered a whole new world.
I joined the agency because their reputation is stellar and they are THE public relations shop in this region.
I must have met 30 people yesterday in my office tour and every single one of them was obviously the smartest person in their class. It's not a demographic cluster, but a hive. The place buzzes.
There are people my age, but most of them seem to have children just out of strollers. I'm thinking about putting baby pictures of Jess and Jen on my desk. If my colleagues meet the real deal, maybe I'll pass them of as au pairs. (Yeah, they could be from a special agecy which matches the child's physical characteristics for personal validation and self-esteem, it could be all the rage).
I already slipped and mentioned my daughter just got promoted in her Martketing/Communications job in Houston. Maybe I can pass it off as a Montessori exchange program.
During one meeting the question of who recorded the song "Hush" came up. I answered "Deep Purple" and a 20-something said Paula Abdul. Turns out we both were right, but I don't think either of us could hum the other version.
I guess I need to create my own positioning statement here. Do I wish to appear the reasonably energetic and age-appropriate 46-year-old I am... or go for the 35-year-old that looks like hell and has to forget she remembers where she was when Kennedy was shot and Armstrong stepped on the moon?
There's already a 14-year gap between Charlie and I. Would he feel like Donald Trump if I opened it up to 25 years? Skip that illusion, we're both too old to be pregnant and he has about as much a chance of carrying a kid as I do.
I'm proud of having worked with typewriters and carbon paper. I had a hell of an album collection and played 45s by the stack.
Yes, Virginia, there really was a day when you could only talk on the phone for as far as the cord stretched. The big deal about Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color was that it was broadcast in color and we only had three television stations that just appeared in our living room for free.
My mother told me all about it.
