Buffalo Gal Judi Griggs I'm a communications professional, writer, cynic, mother, wife and royal pain. The order depends on the day. I returned to my hometown in November 2004 after a couple of decades of heat and hurricanes. I can polish pristine copy, but not here. This is my morning exercise -- 20-minute takes without a net or spellcheck. It's easier than sit ups for me. No guarantee what it will be for you. 2005-11-15 6:23 PM Lake effected Every time I take my husband in public I fear someone will hurt him.
While he is a generally likeable guy, his regular protestions about how he doesn't understand why Buffalonians are so down on their weather is going to get him popped. He arrived on July 1 in the midst of a record hot summer with precipitation considerably below par. Summer surrendered imperceptibly to a "fall" which was, in reality, an excellent impression of a mild summer- all sunshine and blue skies. This was not our weather, but we didn't want to jinx it by talking about it (just in case the real owner wanted it back). But Charlie continued to praise our misplaced gift, oblivious to to glares and growls he provoked. The weatherman announced today it had been more than 63 years since Buffalo got this far into the fall calendar without a 32 degree temperature. But a freeze is coming Thursday and with it a large moisture mass... combine this with the unseasonably warm Lake Erie temperatures and we're all set up for the white-out hell otherwise known as the lake effect flurries. So I've only got another day to worry about someone socking Charlie-- before Mother Nature wallops us all. Copyright 2005 Judi Griggs Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
