First off-we're here!!
Saturday was filled with much travel. We got up at the totally reasonable hour (Phil would disagree) of 7:00. Our ride arrived around 7:35, we finished getting ready, loaded up, and were off just a bit after 8:00. The ride to the airport was uneventful. We were checked in and got rid of the big luggage and were ready to hang out for a while. Another couple checking in when we were, were also on both of our flights. So we chatted with them, and on the way off the plane in Calgary, they helped with carry on as I was struggling with undoing LB's car seat. Our flight boarded early, and headed out early as well. We arrived in Denver 20 min. early, so our connection, which I was worried about was no problem at all. We sat in the Denver airport and ate lunch. I was hoping LB would nap on the second leg of our flight, but it was not to be. We arrived in Calgary and made our way through an EMPTY customs, got our luggage, and headed to Hertz. We got there and they had no cars of the type we'd reserved (a decent size sedan type-Taurus size), available. We waited a while and then they offered us a Monte Carlo, we asked what type of car it was and were told it was larger than what we'd reserved and 4 doors, so we took it. Walked outside to get into the car, and there it was a small 2 door car, so we turned around and went back in, and at this point I was pretty irritated. The woman who'd helped us was leaving but we caught her before she left and made them fix it. Unfortunately, we were given an SUV. It's an explorer and is much bigger than we wanted, and gets worse gas mileage too, I'm sure. They said we could probably trade it out in Banff, so we're probably going to do that. We piled everyone and everything into the monster and off we went. It was a bit more than an hour drive to Canmore, and we made it without incident. It's green here, the drive from Calgary was pleasant. LB napped, Phil napped a little bit and I enjoyed the scenery-once we got out of Calgary-there was traffic in Calgary. But once we got out 110 km/hr, here we go. As we drove, I could see the mountains ahead of us, but was in for a nice treat once I could really see them. The mountains here, they're SOLID ROCK. They're beautiful!! As some point on all of them, the trees just end and it's just gray rock (I'm assuming it's granite, but I don't know that). But so pretty, I look forward to exploring them. When we got into the condo it was HOT-85F inside. We opened windows but really needed some fans. It's supposed to be cooler here the rest of the week though. We got into town and walked to dinner, it was nice, comfortable temperature and all-if only the condo would cool off-I think we just might pick up a box fan or two, just to draw the cool air into the condo. LB was a nightmare to get to bed. He was overtired and just refused to lie there and let sleep come. He was in and out of bed a bunch of times, but he did eventually get to sleep. And then we did too. Although in the heat it took me quite a while to get to sleep, and then the early morning train wake up call came... But that's a new day, so I'll end this long enough entry now.
