For some of the more recent musicals, they have what's called a lottery where the first few rows of the theater are reserved for $25 seats and if your name is picked, you get one of those seats. As I waited for the lottery for "Rent", Ryan waited for the lottery 5 blocks over for "Avenue Q". Much to our dismay, neither one of us was picked. So, we visited close to 5 other shows to see if we could get something decent. Hugh Jackman was going to charge me over $100 to come see him...and that was the cheapest seat. Well...maybe it wasn't Hugh himself, but this just proves his love for me isn't what mine is for him. Only time will tell....

In any event, after walking all over freakin' times square which I can't stand in the first place, we finally found our show..."Gypsy". When they first started casting "Gypsy", my agent at the time submitted me for Louise. Guess Bernadette couldn't share the stage with another star...there was no audition. Anyway, we had such a great time. A lot of Jerome Robbins original choreography was performed. Bernadette Peters deserved every standing ovation she got. Actually, when she first came out, she seemed incredibly tired. Her energy was really low. I guess she checked in with herself because after about 10 minutes, she sparked up again. It's one thing to choose to show the growth in the character...that the character's arc goes somewhere. It's another thing to save your energy. Still battling that one, but she was fantastic. What seriously stole the show is the lamb that Tammy Blanchard (Louise) sang a song to. They had a real lamb on-stage! It was adorable. At one point, he tried to eat her wig....oh, so cute. John Dossett played Rose's (Bernadette) love interest. The story was so well done. What I thought was really clever is they used a strobe to show the kids growing up. So, Rose's girls (as girls) were on the stage doing their dance, the strobe was set, and the older girls worked their way on-stage doing the same dance as the younger ones moved off-stage. Ofcourse, the strippers singing "You've gotta get a gimmick" were hilarious! Completely, worth seeing!!!

On a side note, Happy new year and don't forget to make your New Years wish. You never know what the upcoming year will bring...nothing ominous I hope.
