2006-07-25 5:01 PM All American Dance Weekend Read/Post Comments (2) |
So, I gave myself an early birthday present. This past weekend my girls and I went to the catskills for an action-packed weekend filled with TONS of dancing.
FRIDAY we arrived at Port Authority really FREAKIN early. Then took the bus up to Ellenville. The bus let us off what felt like a mile down the road from the hotel. That was a fun hike. We arrive at the hotel and found out Melanie had an alias at the hotel as Michelle Williams. So our room had reserved myself, Janice, Joannie, and Michelle. That should have been our first clue this hotel was incompetent. We passed out for a bit in our "Executive Suite" and then checked out the grounds. At 2:30pm there was cocktail and appetizer hour in the Stardust Lounge and then it was off to class at 3pm. Got in 3 classes that day which was awesome. It's so interesting to finally meet these people in person whose names I've only seen over and over again on paper and to be taught their dances. Okay, maybe it's just me but it's exciting. I made the biggest mistake making my first Blevins dance ever to be "Break Free Cha" which is taught entirely in curves. Quite the pickle. That night was the demo of all the dances that were being taught in the weekend. That was cool...and then it was Line Dance Mania until 2am. SATURDAY The first dance I learned this morning was my favorite of the entire weekend taught by the very yummy Guyton Mundy ... "SHAKE". Serious cardio for the morning! It was awesome! The next class was hour 2 of serious cardio. THe dance is called "Energy". So, I was pretty much then ready for a nap. I kept dancing. Went for "Secret" (a Johnanna Barnes dance) and then headed over with Melanie to do some West Coast Swing. Ofcourse the two West Coast dance scenerios they taught were geared clearly for couples. The first one I was supposed to sneak a kiss to Melanie and the second she was supposed to put her hand on my chest. Needless to say, we worked out the variations. They I had an AWESOME hot dog for lunch and headed over to learn "Jukebox" which is done very fast to footloose. TONS of fun!! Slowed it down a bit with another dance with fun turns "Less Complicated". At that point my brain was on fire and needed a nap. Took off the next hour and then finished the day with my mentor Rona who taught my favorite slow dance of the weekend which is done to Rascal Flatts "I'm Moving On", the dance named funny enough I'm Moving On. Oh, it's so beautiful and feels good too. Then we went to dinner and to our surprise were booted from our table. Had many words with many people, but got a great waiter at our new table and he brought icecream to four angry women pretty quick so there were points in his favor. That night the dance instructors put on a show based around the History of Dance and demoed dances done by the decade. It was really interesting. Then, it was Line Dance Mania. I think the girls and I called it a night around 1am. We fell fast asleep. SUNDAY Departure Day. :( Got in one final class before I left. Another hip hop class with Guyton. This dance was only 32 counts whereas Shake was 128, however I found this dance much harder. Then, we spent the morning dancing until lunch and said our goodbyes. As we were checking out there was a huge discrepancy on billing which I think I blocked out of my brain because I chose to give the dances priority over hotel stupidity. Melanie gave us a lift back to the train and we made our way home. About 7pm, I walk in the door and see my bunny very happy to see me. So, that's the whole enchilada. Oh, and my birthday is one week from today so that's exciting. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
