2006-10-12 8:28 PM URENA takes the Bronze! Read/Post Comments (0) |
Spanish food + Class = the perfect evening at Urena.
This intimate hole-in-the-wall on 28th and Park is the ultimate way to unwind after a long day with a fresh cocktail and a serene environment that no way seems like it belongs in New York. The BIG news is URENA has just been named the #3 New York Top Newcomer Restaurant by the 2007 Zagat Survey. Zagat every year picks their 10 favorite newcomer restaurants. The guides should be distributed sometime late fall. Anyway though, great news for these guys! Tonight was my 4th visit and I was just planning a few celebratory cocktails after a long day of shooting. Yeah, the cheese looked too rockin so I dove into the Tapas. I began with the Peach Cairhina (ugh...spelling) which was AMAZING, pounded some spanish olives and the full sensory flavored Garrotsa (a sharp cheese served with lime sorbet and drizzled honey), and finished off with Frangelico. I had the fruity sweet in the cocktail, the tart in the olives, the pungent/melt in your mouth cheese combo, and needed something a little...nutmegy...so, Frangelico it was. A great evening and not only are the people there so nice and attentive but the customers are just as friendly. It doesn't hurt that the bartender is SUPER hot! Here's Zagat's top three if you want to check it out: BRONZE - Urena, 37 E. 28th St., between Madison and Park Avenue S.; (212) 213-2328 SILVER - The Orchard, 162 Orchard St., bet. Rivington & Stanton streets; GOLD - Telepan, 72 W. 69th St., bet. Columbus Avenue & CPW The NY Post listed the top 10 in last weeks paper. You can also find it in the upcoming Zagat Guide.
