2005-12-15 10:03 AM Winter's Icy Grip I think it's finally reached freezing here. It's been raining since early this morning. Ice is has formed on all the trees and my icicle lights are truly icicles. We've had some sputters with the electric and i only hope it doesn't become another "Ice storm 2002"
I pulled a fake log from the box and lit it. we used to only use the real stuff, but it's so expensive around here, and many times the bundles of wood were still green and hard to keep lit. so i broke down a few years ago and resigned myself to the fake ones. besides, i don't need no man to light them for me, i'm quite capable and yeah, that makes me feel good. it's really beautiful outside. i do love the way the ice encased branches look. there's something really magical about it. it's like being transported into some fairy tale. i don't mind the rain. don't get me wrong, i start getting depressed if i have to go more than three or four days without some sunshine, but most of the time the cloudy, soggy sky suits my moods. oh, it's times like this i wish i had a digital camera (are you listening santa?). though the roads weren't really bad this morning, once it drops below freezing tonight, they should be quite a mess for tomorrow am. they did close several ramps on the two freeways that cut through the city. and there were several accidents. the ncdot said that if you didn't need to go anywhere, it was best to stay home. apparently, the school system wasn't listening. even though every school system around us either delayed classes by two hours or cancelled them completely, char-meck didn't. however, the buses were running late. usually when i take mark to work at five thirty i see them already enroute. this morning i didn't. the news said they'd be running late, but i gave in (my arm really didn't have to be twisted that hard) and let the boy stay home. the iceback more than likely won't be thrilled with this, but what the heck. i just feel bad for him, because if he doesn't get to work late tonight, he'll be riding his bike home in this mess. i've planned a nice big pot of stew to warm both mark and cc up when they get home. and hopefully to ward off any sickness. well, so, i think i'll try to take advantage of this weather and see if i can eek out a story, or something. stay warm, ya'll!
