2008-01-05 12:13 PM changing the pic again wow, the other day i went out and snapped some shots around town. and believe me, around this town, there are so many places to snap great pics of the river.
so this is the public pier and dock in the city park. as i was leaving, a man was heading toward the dock to fish. i almost wish he'd been there a few minutes earlier so i could catch him trying to catch his catch. lol it was windy as hell yesterday when i took this pic, and so freakin cold, the water was sooo choppy (it didn't help that my hair was freshly washed and a little wet) and notice that large ship/barge type thing in the distance? this river is HUGE. it looks like a great lake, i swear it does. but when i left the pretty city park (a few more pics are in my flickr account) behind the city hall (pics of that to come, because i really love the spanish inspired architecture)i took st. john's avenue. there are the most gorgeous homes along this street, most with waterfront properties and private docks. the street itself is mostly brick (omg, i love brick streets) and the homes are simply to die for. i noticed today, on our local real estate channel, the one home i saw yesterday on this street that is for sale (with an air-conditioned dock side building)...can we say one million, one hundred thirty-six thousand dollars? i also ran across the most unbelievable church, on the banks of the river. and even tho it was episcopalian (sp?) it reminded me of the old time country southern baptist churches of my youth. i plan another trip back there just to take photos of the street and the church. z-man wondered if indeed we were on an island. it seems at first glance we might be (especially since there is a place just down the road called "flemming island") but we're only surrounded (as far as i can tell) on two side. coming from st. augustine (or going to) i have to cross the st. john's river, a very long bridge. and going a quarter direction down the highway from where we live (sorry, my sense of direction is messed up, but think of it as coming from the south, and then going out southwest) to the wal-mart, we once again cross over another bridge. though technically, it isn't the st. john's river that we cross, it is a creek at the mouth of the st. john's. when we headed the opposite direction on the way to sarasota (ironically, we needed to head south, but left north to get out of town) there was no water. so we are not really on an island. (look at the map and you'll see. if you go to my flickr site you'll see exactly where in florida we are) anyhow, lots more good scenery to come, and i haven't even been to st. augustine yet to take photos. still wishing for a much better camera. ugh! ;-) Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
