"i got satan's cat, and i got god's big dog too"

omg...i'm loving it. it has been oh i don't know, seven, eight years at least since i've heard melanie's "gather me" wow...it came out in 71...my sister (one of them) bought the album and i carried it with me. somewhere along the way, i lost it (i lost many a good albums) but low and behold, the iceback's mom had a copy (she is only 12 years older than me) so i stole it. and when we first moved in together, we actually had a turn-table, so i listened as much as i could. it's now way way scratchy (and annoying, if i could even find a turn-table on which to listen to it)

i usually listened to the harder stuff...alice cooper's billion dollar babies, and then of course, later on, nazareth, foreigner, styx, ac/dc (i hear melanie is one of the boys from ac/dc favorite singers)...but i have my "soft" moments too, like janice ian's "seventeen" and cat steven's "morning has broken" (love melanie's "baby day")

man, i've so missed this album. of course, years ago, as a wee, not even teen yet, i just liked the songs (and the quality of her voice...unusual, but so filled with emotion). now, a bit older, i can see more of the meaning behind them, and dammit, they are just lovely. i love her voice. and she was probably one of the firsts to put an actual orchestra behind her (i don't remember joni mitchell or joan biaz doing that)

many of you might not remember exactly who melanie is (lisa marie, you're a bit too young, more than likely) but her one big song in america (by NO means her best) was "brand new key" which i remember cher singing on her show (with some sort of cartoon video to go along with it)

so in case you don't know who she is, i have searched hi and low on youtube, and while the first song is not "her" video, it is her voice. the other is a wonderful guitar arrangement from some random guy (who, by looking at him, i suspect grew up listening to melanie also...netter, i hope you ripped a copy before sending it along!)

this album so speaks to the hippy in me, which seems to get stronger and stronger every year (man, i'm such a hippy-chick)

enjoy!

"some say i got devil"

"some say i got devil" lyrics

Some say I got devil
Some say I got angel
But I'm just a girl in trouble
I don't think I'm in danger
Don't think I'm in danger
No, I know I'm not in danger
But some have tried to sell me
All kinds of things to save me
From hurting like a woman, and crying like a baby
Something like a woman, crying like a baby

And all the things that I have seen
Qualify me for a part in your dream
Qualify me for this dream

And though I'd like to tell it
Exactly how I feel it
Somehow the music
Hides it and conceals it
Hides it and conceals it
Oh, it hides

And all the things that I have seen
Can be hidden in a part of my dream
Gonna hide it in my dream

Some say I've got devil
Some say I got angel
But I'm just this girl in trouble
I don't think I'm in danger
No I'm not in danger
No, I know I'm not in danger

thanks again, dave, for finding it for me!

;-)
