2008-03-18 12:13 PM what can i say? i'm getting old and fascinated with the weather ok, well, i've always been a little obsessive about it.
sunday (or was it saturday?) was a gusty day, the windiest i've seen it without rainfall. just before sunset, i stepped outside to snap some pics of my favorite subject...clouds. it was great. the clouds had that lovely pre-sunset orange glow that doesn't happen every day. but as i stood out there, the wind was pushing me and i was having problems steadying myself and my camera, the gusts were so strong at times. in my head i kept hearing the oklahoma song "where the winds come sweeping down the plain" (you know, at one time, okla city was the windiest place in america, not chicago, that was named the "windy city" because they TALKED A LOT...lol) forget your hairdos or convertibles in okla, people. but at least through the I-40 corridor, okla has rolling hills, slight as they may be, you still have ups and downs, over and arounds. not so here. it's flat. like kansas. funny too, z's friends brought him back on saturday, and they got lost in the florida countryside (as there is no direct route to our little town, but rather a labyrinth of poorly marked back state highways...at one time, the group was nearly all the way back to daytona beach, having taken the wrong exit off of I-95) all of them were surprised by all the trees. not palms but oaks and whatever other kind of trees they are (i'm not a botanist) i found it kind of funny that you would live in the same state and not "know" that existed...but i guess that's teens anyway. anyhow, i digress, as usual... after snapping my pics, later in the evening i sat out on the front porch, the cool winds just felt so wonderful. i just love that, and when i would go into the bathroom, i could hear a weird kind of fluttering noise as the wind hit one of the neighbor's satellite dish. i must be strange. but i can only think, surmise, that because i grew up with such weather, there is something comforting to me about it. kind of the way certain food smells will instantly transport you back into grandma's kitchen or how certain songs can instantly transport you to a hormone driven fumble-fest in the backseat of billy's mach 1 mustang. i was sitting there, enjoying the wind on my face, blowing my hair this way and that when chris and bethany come out of their place. bethany says it's a lot like that this time of year. and basically is what the springtime is like in this region. i can live with that. so, unfortunately for all, i will more than like have more posts on my communion with nature. (btw, the boy made it back safe and had fun. his friends are very nice, respectful. all is right with the world again) ;-) Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
