2010-08-02 12:17 AM spelling i was a decent speller. the words that would always get me are the ance/ence endings. i could never remember which word took which vowel.
as i've gotten older, my spelling is a little lackluster. i get ticked at the words i have to look up now. refrigerator, prejudice, i've looked these up more than i am willing to tell you. i finally got occasionally down, thank goodness. so tonight, i have to look up "accommodating." in the search engine, i ran across this book that looks like it might be quite humorous to us writerly types. Accomodating Brocolli in the Cemetary: Or Why Can't Anybody Spell take the little test further down the page. i think i missed one of them, maybe two (damn, where those double consonants go also blows my mind) funny too, because people always ask me how to spell this word or that. well as long as it doesn't have that ance/ence cunundrum, or the double possibly double-double consonants enigma, then i'm your girl. at least i have that whole i before e thing down. oye! btw, here's a word from the urban dictionary... Conundrufuck: An extrodinarily paradoxical problem or situation that seemingly makes no rhyme or reason; a dilemma of epic proportions, usually answered with a shrug of the shoulders, or verbalization of the phrase "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". i like the word, i think i'll keep it as one of my own. right up there with pristine, juxtaposition and parse (parse is also a new one.) favorite words? anyone?
