We went to visit the new pediatrician for his 3 year check up.

On the way into the exam room they weighed and measured him:
30.75 pounds (25%)
35.5 inches (10%)

That seems strange to me, because he seems relatively skinny, but whatever, maybe he had a big lunch?!?

They did a vision test, it was odd in that he couldn't figure out what the picture was, not that he couldn't see it, but they were line drawings and a few were a bit difficult to figure out. I probably should have told them that he knows his letters so they could have used a normal eye chart. Oh well.

But then they did the hearing test, the nurse put 5 blocks out on the table from a plastic box and told him that she was going to put the headphones on him (he wears daddy's headphones sometimes, so they weren't unfamiliar to him) and that every time he heard a sound from the headphones he should put a block into the box. He did it perfectly. It was pretty cool. (added info from daddy-he had a HUGE grin on his face the whole time they were doing that test)

Then came the doctor part. She came in, and since we were new, she asked us a bunch of questions, then she turned her attention to him. She asked him who lived with him, and he pointed to mommy and daddy in turn saying, "you and you." Then she asked him if he had any brothers and sisters, he thought about that one a long time. I don't think he knows if he does or not. Eventually I asked him how many people lived at home with him, three or four and he decided it was just three. She also asked him what his favorite food was, he didn't know what to say, but eventually told her that he loves dumplings. She's an asian doctor and claimed that he was after her own heart.

She then asked him if he had any pets at home and he said that yes he did. (we don't, so that confused me a bit) Then she asked him what kind of animals he had at home as pets, and he told her that he had stuffed animals. Hee hee.

Then she asked him who his favorite friends to play with were, and he said his mommy and his daddy (say it with me, AAAAAWWWWWWW!!!). But she couldn't get him to name any of his other friends, oh well.

Then came the magical stairs, he LOVED the magical stairs. There was a cabinet and one of the cabinets was a roll out staircase instead of an actual cabinet. She pulled it out and he could climb up onto the exam table all by himself. He preferred to go up and down the stairs a bunch of times instead. Once we got him up to the table he didn't want much to do with the exam itself. He was pretty happy to let her look into his ears but not much else. He didn't want his blood pressure taken and he didn't want her looking in his mouth, but eventually we got everything done. His BP was LOW (but he's 3, so not a huge surprise).

The last part was his least favorite, but he did fine. They did a TB test and then he got just one shot. The TB test was fine, he wasn't thrilled but didn't seemed but so bothered by it. The shot, he screwed his face up a bit, but it was over before he could actually start crying, so he didn't bother. He didn't even want the band aid either.

So that was the visit to the doctor. All's well and he goes back in a year.
