Jenn's recent entry reminded me about why. Why I'm in Los Angeles, why I have a "writing" category in my budget, why I'm doing research on a World War II dogfight that's going to make one damn fine movie, why I keep sketching out story ideas for a TV series when it's nigh impossible to get series on the air.

For a while, however long it takes to go from FADE IN: to FADE OUT:, I'm playing in a world that I wouldn't mind finding myself stuck in for a couple of hours. I would hang out with some of the characters for a while and enjoy it. I hear their nattering in my head and I give them life and voice and the freedom to exist, even if only for a short time.

Maybe, someday, the things that are in my head will fill the nighttime fantasies of other dreamy teenagers who need heros and heroines, quests and adventure. I like the idea of sharing the fun. I like the idea of passing along warmth and inspiration.

Thanks, Jenn, and thanks to Sarah who kindled the spark in Jenn that has since become a fire. I'm warming my hands now, and am about to toast some marshmallows.
