2003-03-18 1:46 PM It's just a phone call... Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Un-intrepid So today I started the hardest part of my career to date -- cold calls. Picking up the phone and calling production companies and shows, to get my scripts over to them, and ultimately get a job.
I haven't fully analyzed why this is such a hard thing for me, but it is. However, I can at least identify when I'm avoiding the task, and take myself to task for not tasking. And, yes, I have an agent with a reputable company. However Jo-Ann has a large client list who she's hustling for, and she must divide her time amongst us. Mine is a client list of one, to which I can give 100% of my time. The way I see it, I am taking control of my career. In the very least, Jo-Ann's name and the agency's name, are worth every cent of commission if it means that execs will take my calls. OK, if the execs assistants take my calls, and then my scripts. So, I intend to make three selling calls daily. Further (erp) I intend to post the results of my calls daily. This is my way of applying pressure to stay honest, and to stay busy. Today's calls Tollin/Robbins: No problemo. Have Jo-Ann send a script on agency letterhead to the VP of TV Development. John Wells: The person answering the phone can't get anyone to pick up. He took a detailed message and will pass it on to the appropriate assistant. Waiting for a call back. (Note to self: take the initiative and ask for the phone person's name -- make that personal connection.) Dragnet: Here's a tip about the Hollywood Creative Directory. For the TV shows, they list the production offices, which isn't the right office to talk to (but I knew this already). Got transferred to the showrunner's office. No answer, so left a message to call. Updated Jo-Ann immediately following. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
