Thursday calls

Mood:
Forward, forward, ever forward

The brilliant idea of putting my calls out here is doing what I wanted it to do -- applying incredible pressure for me to pick up the phone. So far, any excuses I've had to not call have been crushed by the thought of how lame those excuses would look here.

Dragnet
Callback, since I hadn't received a return call (no surprise). The show is waiting for a renewal order from the network. Until then, they're not reading. However, if they do get a pickup, I was told that it's very OK to call again and get a script over there.

Then Came Jones
More research led me to Touchstone. Utilizing my Hollywood Creative Directory, I got to the Exec. director of Drama Development. I got that same "have your agent call" message, but the person to call is yet another exec who's in charge of that project. She's a SVP of Drama Series at Touchstone. Once I do more research, I'll try calling her tomorrow, I think. (I don't want to call again right away and speak to the same assistant who suggested I not call.)

Weapon X
Left word for the showrunner to call. Based on my conversation, I'm 90% sure I'll be calling back first, but I'll give them a couple of days.

Other Calls
Called John just to say hi. It's very refreshing to call an industry person who's happy to chat, even if about nothing movie-related. His projects are still going forward, and he liked the actress I connected him to. Slowly we build to critical mass getting this thing going!

THREE HUNDRED LIONS
I'm trying another approach to LIONS (a romantic Greek tragedy). I'm pitching it to companies who have European-based contacts. To that end, I faxed queries to Alliance Atlantis, Merchant-Ivory and Working Title Films. I will do follow-up calls to them and see if I can't at least get a synopsis over there (better still send a script).

I updated Jo-Ann on my successes so far. She's going to call over to Tollin/Robbins first, to see if they're reading for Smallville, and send my Jordan over to Century City. Her research is telling her that there's not much movement on current shows (the writing staffs are staying put), so my efforts are best exerted by contacting pilots.
