2003-06-23 1:47 PM More for FTD Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: No, not the flowers This past weekend, I went to a WGA Foundation seminar on "Writers on Genre." While the actual topics could have been meatier, with regards to the actual genre question, I made two very good contacts.
The first is with Daryl Nickens, the event organizer. Turns out that he was my mentor for an AFI/Sloan Foundation course I took several years ago on the positive portrayal of science in television. I gained entry to the program through using environmental science in a Walker, Texas Ranger spec. (Since everyone else was doing a Law & Order, X-Files or ER, my WTR spec stood out.) Earlier this year, I tried to hook up with him for coffee and it didn't work. We're now meeting on Thursday for breakfast at Denny's and talk about my career and American Pilot. The other good contact was a potential new friend. She is also a writer, we have a friend in common, and many common interests. On top of that, she has a relationship with Ben Browder's manager, to whom I want to get Fork-Tailed Devil. She is going to forward a query on my behalf to Ben's manager, and I hope to get the script directly to Ben. In other areas, I have more interest in FTD by another independent producer, so I will be mailing the script to her tomorrow. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
