Alan DeNiro, poetry editor for Say... why aren't we crying?, rejected my two poetry submissions today for a reason that I half-expected when I submitted them. He found them too narrative. One of them in particular, "Iris," even feels like a story to me. So, I decided to reclassify the work as a flash fiction piece and submitted it to Vestal Review. I don't know if it works any better as flash, but I may alternate its classification as I try different markets for it. If nothing else, the idea adds amusement to the submissions process for me.
