2005-12-07 10:55 AM How do other ministers blog during Advent? Oh yeah, and a few rants... I have no idea how my pals in RevGalBlogPals manage to blog regularly during Advent. Between holiday concert rehearsals for the two choruses I'm in, preparing for worship and the two extra services this month, pastoral care, preparing for an upcoming contentious regional church meeting where issues related to both Israel/Palestine and the church's position on GLBT ordination will be front and center (along with me), I have no energy and very little time to post anything, particularly anything pithy. Here's what I would be blogging about if I had more time:
1. The budget that seems likely to pass in Congress sucks and is, in a word, evil. 2. Ford Motor Company's decision to cancel all advertising in the GLBT community--including pulling ads of long-standing in OUT and THE ADVOCATE--after high level talks with the American Family Association who was threatening a boycott sucks and is, in a word, cowardly. 3. The groups who are attacking The American Girl Company because they support a non-profit that seeks to educate teen girls so that they can avoid unwanted preganancies and sexually transmitted diseases suck, and are seriouly short sighted. I'm actually thinking of buying one of their dolls just to show support...and I'm NOT that kind of homo. 4. The CIA's apparent policy of kidnapping suspected terrorists and whisking them away to hidden jails for torture is one more sign that the liberties we are supposedly fighting to protect in Afghanistan and Iraq have already been sacrificed by leaders who believe that the ends justify the means (see early Fascism, circa the 1930's). That Condi Rice and the whole Administration now refuse to even apologize to this fellow from Germany they kidnapped by mistake sucks, and is, in two words, dangerously arrogant. Go ACLU, kick some ass! 5. The new blow up yard decorations that look like snow globes with the little fake snow blowing around in them are hilariously campy....as long as the never do one with the figure of Santa praying at the manger while snows blows all around. Blech! 6. Hot green tea and microwaved edamame make a wonderful after rehearsal snack, as does Basmati rice microwaved with fat free chicken stock. 7. Snow is totally awesome. Below zero wind chill factors SUCK. 8. I'm ashamed to say that I'm looking forward to a new season of that clothing designer reality show on Bravo...nothing quite as deliciously snarky as wannabe clothing designers. 9. I can't wait to see Brokeback Mountain, and I hope more than just gay people go to see it, or there may never be another mainstream studio production of a gay love story again... 10. Is anyone looking forward to the movie of "The Producers: The Musical"? I'm a big ole' showtune homo and I'm not all that interested...Could it be the horridly stereotypical characters that Mel Brooks seems to adore? Perhaps...
