I feel sick. Sci Fiction Sci Fiction is closing down. You can do something about it. Email: feedback@scifi.com Here's three good reasons why you should: The Voluntary State by Christopher Rowe Little Faces by Vonda McIntyre Gauging Moonlight by E. Catherine Tobler If those don't convince you, you shouldn't be reading science fiction. :) Hot Chocolate And while you're doing things, don't forget this: There are moves afoot by many companies, most prominently by Amazon and Google, to put books online, despite those books being copyright. Authors and publishers have been forced into an ineffectual reactive strategy each time this comes up. Which is why the COCOA (Copyright Owners Control Of Access) idea is a good one. Basically, it allows the people who own the copyright (usually the author) to state how much and which portions of their work can be shown by these companies. Some people might opt for 0% (their loss). If you're Cory Doctorow, you might opt for 100%. The rest of us would likely opt for something in between, such as blocking the last third of our books. Amazon, Google and the rest need to be persuaded to sign up to this idea. Help out by signing the petition. It protects authors and allows them to make an income while at the same time allowing the companies to make material available without breaching copyright laws.
