Writing and short days

These last three days have been really good for me. I've been working from home, which means I save almost two hours of commuting time each day. So I've been using it for writing. I've been struggling to dig out time for that, recently, as Steph and I have both been exhausted and intermittently ill. We're not winter* people. Short days means we need loads and loads of sleep.

This extra time means I've finally, finally, finally got into writing Secrets. I've been writing about four closely-scribbled pages a day for the last two days. Don't know what that comes out to typed. Maybe 1,500 - 2,000 a day. Which is a hell of a lot more than I've been doing for ages. I've been really needing to get some momentum going, and this has done it. Not sure what happens next, though.

* Yeah, I know it's not winter yet. But it feels feels like winter.

Steph and I have both booked off nice long Christmas breaks. Steph is getting two weeks solid, and I'm getting a couple of days longer. As I work for a University, we're closed between Christmas and new year, and so it's easy to get a long period. If we had the money, we'd fly off somewhere warm, like the Caribbean to recuperate. But we don't, so we'll make do with a really nice Christmas at home. This'll be the first Christmas that we haven't actually visited relatives, the first Christmas in our own house. We've been promising for years that we'll do this. Christmas tree, tacky decorations and everything.

Tonight we're going to take it easy. This week has wiped us out, even with me staying at home and hardly doing anything strenuous. Now all I have to do is persuade Steph that she wants to watch Buffy all evening.
