2008-12-18 11:19 AM CD Review: Jeff Boyle's DOWNTOWN Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I've given Jeff Boyle's newest CD, DOWNTOWN a good listen to, and while it's a lot different, and quite varied from song to song, I'm really enjoying it, and find myself humming the tunes all the time.
There are nine songs on this disc, two of which were on other discs. "Lisa and Me" was on his last CD, DOG NAMED ZERO, and the last song, titled "One More Day", was on his CD titled BUBBA. The other seven songs are new. The first song, "Edison Watched TV", is a driving rocker where Jeff talks about a party for his old dead heroes (except Paul McCartney, who isn't dead but "who can turn down Paul?"). "I Live Downtown" is a Latin-influenced song which will have you snapping your fingers. "A Caged Bird Can Sing" follows that one, and seems to me to be a swing/big band-influenced song. "Maggie Has Everything" is my favorite, with its horn riffs and big sound. "Hey God", "You Don't Pick Up", and "Uncle Mike's Famous Meatballs" round out the new songs on the disc. Everything is well produced, and the musicianship is flawless. I recommend it highly. You can also listen to four of the tunes at Jeff's website. It's available for download at Amazon, at iTunes, and at CDBaby. Disclaimer: Jeff is a friend of mine. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
