Global Warming = Rapid Climate Change

Just a few thoughts: We're ensconced in a deep freeze, and maybe, just maybe, there is an end in sight, but not before more snow and more cold weather. This has been a spell that makes 20 degrees above zero feel relatively warm, and while those of us who live in the northern midwest are used to, and expect, cold weather, this year feels different to me. I don't remember having quite so many arctic freezes followed by snow (followed by arctic freeze followed by snow followed by...you get the picture) in, well...forever. Maybe it has happened before but I just don't remember it.

I've spoken to environmental scientists who say that it's a relatively accepted fact in the scientific community, if not in the political community, that global climate is changing. Whether you want to blame man or just a natural cycle, change is a'comin'. Things like the jetstream and the patterns of the ocean currents are affected by salt concentration in the ocean, and this concentration is actually going down (the ocean is getting a little less salty) as huge chunks of ice in Antartica break off. What this means is not completely known, but it isn't a surprise that it can affect things like currents, flows of water due to -...- to what? I don't know. I'm not an environmental scientist.

Anyway, my author friend Steven M. Moore wrote a cool little essay touching on some of this stuff on his blog, and I thought I'd share the link here, if anyone wants to read it.

A Winter From Hell

Steve always has an interesting and thought provoking take on issues, and this one is no exception in my opinion.
