CPR rant. Not

Well I had my CPR rant ready to go, and then sister totally took the wind out of my sails by informing me that my rant was unfounded. See, during our CPR recertification, the deputy who was going over the information stated that we didn't have to rescue breaths, and could just do chest compressions when doing CPR. My first reaction when I heard this was "Whhhhhaaaaat?!" I've done CPR out in the field, and yes I got down and dirty and sucked face with an old guy. And I've heard far too many people say that there's no way they'd ever get that "close" to a dying person.. I can't really figure that out. I visited Mr. Poynot in the hospital a couple of days after we sucked face. His family was there.. daughters, siblings, wife. Victims have families. God damn it, but if it was a relative of mine who needed CPR I'd sure as hell fucking want someone to get down and dirty with them.

Okay, getting back to my rant. Or lack thereof. So anyway, I figured that the deputy had said that because so many people are squeamish about mouth to mouth. And I'm sitting there thinking, "This is your fucking JOB, people. You're willing to run into a burning building, you're willing to get down and wrestle wth a crackhead (who probably DOES have diseases), you're willing to face a felon with a gun, but you can't give mouth to mouth?"

Then my sister called me after I posted my last entry and asked me what my rant was going to be about. I said, "Can you believe that she said that we didn't have to do rescue breaths?!"

And my sister replied, "Yep. And she's right." Holy shit. So I went and looked it up. Holy shit.
