Drama Movie of the Week 2004 I will always have much fonder memories of the novel of A Wrinkle in Time than I will Disney's adaptation. It's not that there was anything particularly wrong about the MOW, but there wasn't anything particularly right, either. The elements of a young girl finding her self-worth and place in the world are there, the plot stays true to the book (or what I remember of it), the acting was fine, and the actors well-chosen. The effects were a bit cheap, but I'm willing to give some leeway on that -- TV budgets simply aren't the same as features where you can get spectacular digital effects. There was something missing. Something to keep me on the edge of my seat. A sense of jeopardy, perhaps. Mostly I found the story a bit talky, with little opportunity for the actors to show passion. Yes, that's what I'm missing. Passion. Ah well. I still have the book. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
