Drama Feature Film 2004 At last! A review of a movie released this year! Troy was worth watching on the big screen. They had good effects, a fine set, and plenty of sweeping vistas. It had good effects, good battles, cool battle toys, a very well-done Trojan horse, Brad Pitt was perfect for Achilles, Eric Bana simply yummy to watch, Sean Bean was perfectly cast, and Peter O'Toole only gets better with age. Unless you've completely missed classic literature, you know the story. It's been told dozens of times on large screen and small, print, games and stage. Boy meets girl, boy steals girl, jilted husband destroys boy's civilization. There's only so many ways you can tell that story. Troy did take a bit of a twist on it by focusing on Achilles' conflict with himself and his purpose in the world, but in the end Troy was still about boy meet girl, and fools accepting gifts when they shouldn't. Since I knew the story, I lost the zing. Despite that, I rank it as worth going to see in the theater. It's epic and there's a slew of good talent involved, both on-camera and behind-the-scenes.
