My office decided to close tomorrow (Friday) and Monday for the Memorial Day weekend, so I now get a four-day weekend. Thank god.

Tonight, Jen and I went to see Dominion, the previously unreleased prequel to the Exorcist movies.

I was less than impressed.

Long story short, I found it bordering on condescending. I appreciate intelligent films (Memento and The Usual Suspects are two of my favorites), but I also like films that treat you as if you're intelligent. If you're going to get a point across, either be artful about it, or be subtle about it. There were a few instances where it felt as if the movie was trying to say:

"Yes, that's Satan. But in case you didn't pick up on that, here's SPOOKY SPECIAL EFFECTS to make you realize it!"

Ugh. Please. If a story or script is written well, it shouldn't have to beat the viewer about the head and shoulders with camera tricks or special effects to convey a message. It should just tell the story.

Oh, well. Off to bed now.
